What is a Doula?

The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.
Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily.
A Birth Doula
Recognizes birth as a key experience the mother will remember all her life
Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor
Assists the woman in preparing for and carrying out her plans for birth
Stays with the woman throughout the labor
Provides emotional support, physical comfort measures and an objective viewpoint, as well as helping the woman get the information she needs to make informed decision
Facilitates communication between the laboring woman, her partner and her clinical care providers
Perceives her role as nurturing and protecting the woman's memory of the birth experience
Allows the woman's partner to participate at his/her comfort level
A birth doula certified by DONA International is designated by the initials CD(DONA).
Research evidence shows that the quality services of a postpartum doula can ease the transition that comes with the addition of a baby to a family, improve parental satisfaction and reduce the risk of mood disorders.
A Postpartum Doula
Offers education, companionship and nonjudgmental support during the postpartum fourth trimester
Assists with newborn care, family adjustment, meal preparation and light household tidying
Offers evidence-based information on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, infant soothing and coping skills for new parents and makes appropriate referrals when necessary
A postpartum doula certified by DONA International is designated by the initials PCD(DONA).

Lost
Sometimes lost is where you need to be. Just because you don't know your direction doesn't mean you don't have one.

Strength
True strength lies within, it is the spark of energy located around your stomach. This energy center is called your Solar Plexus it is the same divine energy as the Sun, it is the spark of life in its purest form.
When you concentrate on what you are those things that you are not sheds away.
Perfect divine energy.
To think that we have any control in our life seems trivial. We can't seem to see one foot ahead of us most of the time and just as soon as we think we know where we are going life always takes a spin. Surrender. Put your feet up while traveling down the river of life.
Honor who you really are.
At the very core of our soul there is a light. A flame so bright and intense that nothing can touch it. Darkness does not consume the light.... instead, the bright light of the Divine consumes the imagined dark nights. True strength is honoring this light, your real Highest self... Surrender, and be loyal to yourself always.

Purity
The web of light that is pure is between all beings, all particles, and between past present and future. It brings wholeness to apparent duality and and combines all energies, uniting all that was, is or could be. When we lose awareness of this connection in our lives, we feel isolated, lonely, bereft. Yet the energy is there. We only need to be open to it.
Our human ego would always have us frightened and unworthy of the love that we deserve.
What is it that makes us doubt ourselves?
There are emotions that help us open up- love, compassion, trust and so on... There are other emotions and energies that would have us feel seperate like jealousy, anger, fear, grief and others of a similarily painful nature.. Yet sometimes, these very emotions when carried to an extreme, cause us to break down and then break thru to the song of Unity and Purity. This can be a frightening road to go down as well as an extremely difficult one. Because more often than not the breakdown just stays broken for a very long time. We make it to the brink and then retreat back to a more crippled version of ourselves. A far better way to become aware of our pure, holistic higher self is to work at keeping our hearts open, seeing relationships, being grounded and connecting to the great Mother Earth. Let go of all your defenses. It is only by lettign go of all our defenses and surrendering that you become invulnerable and truly pure.

Balance
Duality is a battleground.
Duality is conflict.
You are sadness. You are happiness. For without one you aren't the other, and then you are WHOLE.
If you are on one side, pointing at the other side then you are no better off. In taking sides, there is only pain.
There is something miraculous that lies in the absence of taking sides.
We live in a battleground of duality where there is a perception of right and wrong, left and right, up and down, good and evil, male and female. These parallels are the flip side of the same coin that is always propelling forward, for one is stagnant without the other. There is only pain in taking sides. So, be lifted up and from a higher place, a higher vibration look down upon it. From there you perception will be quite different. Balance is the unity amongst sides and realizing that duality is merely an illusion. We are called to walk to miraculous path that lies on the absence of taking sides. From this center point we can see the great purpose of the harmonic notes of the great symphony that is this cosmic Universe.
